Portrait Photography: Man Ray

Man Ray

-Lee Miller
-Man Ray
-1930
- I like this portrait because it is simplistic. It has no added effects and the subject isn't wearing anything fancy
-I like the angle because her body is tilted but her face is straight on, which makes it more visually appealing
- It is really interesting that none of her hair is showing, and that it is wrapped in a black cloth that compliments her black shirt
-the photographer uses the rule of thirds because she is not placed in the middle of the photo
-this picture makes her look like a kind and gentle person because of the way her face looks and her pose

-Benjamin Fondane
-Man Ray
-1928
-this photo is very interesting because the subject is looking down at his face in his own hands
-the picture makes him look more magical because he isn't holding his head, it's floating above his hands
-I like the composition of this photo, that it doesn't have a focus on having a perfect background, the focus is on the subject
-your eyes are able to move around the picture with the lines on his body, the lines on his suit, and the folds in the backdrop
-the lighting is good because it shows good highlights and shadows

-Marquise Casati
-Man Ray
-1922
-Man Ray uses overlapping in this photo to create an interesting visual effect that makes the subject look blurry and like she has 4 eyes
-this picture creates a feeling of disorient and confusion
-the picture grabs your attention because at first you don't know what you're looking at, and then after you realize what it is you start trying to figure out why the photographer would make her look like that
-the fact that there isn't a focus on lighting makes the subject less illuminated, and therefore makes both the picture and the subject look darker in nature
